Preppers, or people who prepare for emergencies, are becoming increasingly popular. And for good reason! With natural disasters, terrorist attacks, and pandemic outbreaks on the rise, it’s more important than ever to be prepared. And one of the best ways to prepare for an emergency is by stocking up on emergency supplies. But where should you start? One good option is to stock up on food, first aid, and gear for survival kits.

Let’s explore each of these aspects:

  1. FOOD: Having an adequate supply of non-perishable food is crucial for any survival scenario. Preppers often store long-lasting food items that require minimal preparation. Items such as canned goods, freeze-dried meals, rice, beans, dried fruits, nuts, and energy bars are commonly included in survival food caches. It’s important to rotate these supplies regularly to ensure freshness and prevent spoilage.
  2. GEAR: Having the right gear can significantly enhance a prepper’s chances of surviving in challenging situations. The gear can include items such as:
  • Shelter: Tents, tarps, or bivvy sacks for protection from the elements.
  • Clothing: Sturdy and weather-appropriate clothing, including extra layers and waterproof gear.
  • Fire-starting tools: Lighters, matches, fire starters, and tinder for warmth, cooking, and signaling.
  • Water purification: Water filters, purification tablets, or boiling containers to ensure a safe drinking water source.
  • Multi-tool: A versatile tool with various functions, like a Swiss Army knife.
  • Navigation: Maps, compasses, or GPS devices to find your way in unfamiliar terrain.
  • Flashlights or headlamps: Essential for visibility during low-light conditions.
  • Communication: Handheld radios or satellite phones for emergency communication.
  1. MEDICAL KITS: A well-equipped medical kit is vital for treating injuries and illnesses in emergency situations. Preppers often include the following items in their medical kits:
  • Bandages and gauze for wound dressing.
  • Antiseptic wipes and ointments to prevent infection.
  • Pain relievers and fever reducers.
  • Adhesive tape and scissors.
  • Tweezers for removing splinters or ticks.
  • Thermometer to monitor body temperature.
  • Personal medications and prescriptions, if applicable.
  • First aid guide or manual for reference.

It’s essential for survival preppers to be knowledgeable about using the gear and medical supplies they have in their possession. Regular training and practice can make a significant difference in how well they handle emergency situations.

Remember, being prepared and having the right resources can help ensure the safety and well-being of yourself and others in challenging circumstances.

But Where Should You Begin?

An excellent place to start is by gathering some basic survival gear and prepping essentials. First, you’ll want to make sure you have a first aid kit. This should include bandages, gauze, disinfectant, and anything else you might need to treat minor injuries.

Next, it’s a good idea to stock your pantry with non-perishable food. This could include canned goods, dried pasta, and rice. You’ll also want to have water on hand. This could mean storing bottled water, or it could also mean having a water filter or purification tablets.

Finally, you’ll want some tools to help you survive. This might include flashlights, a camping stove, a pocket knife, or a Swiss army knife.
